What matters when you are building a website?

“𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫, 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞, 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐡, 𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐡, 𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐡”- Most business owners believe that having this “work of art” for a website is the number 1 priority in design. Guess what? WRONG! 😱 Though the overall design is important no doubt, (I am not trashing the artists among us) but to say that its number 1 is simply not true.

Bear with me: Imagine this…

You purchase your very first Luxury car: Ferrari, Tesla Roadster, Mclaren, Lamborgini, Rolls Royce, etc 🤑 And as a bonus, you get it completely custom! Interior of import leather, monogrammed headrests, custom paint job, modified body style, the works.

And it's even shipped to your house. 🤩

But…It doesn't work! - It doesn’t drive, and even the lights don’t turn on. A 1.2 million dollar piece of driveway decor. That's essentially what a custom website with no CRO is. A beautiful piece of internet decor. Amazing to look at, but does nothing for you. 😬

Now CRO is short for:

Conversion Rate Optimization: What is it? What does it mean?

Meaning - The percentage of website visitors that your website converts into leads. The ideal website both looks beautiful, like that 2022 Tesla Roadster, but it also converts leads beautifully as well.

A well-oiled, seamless machine. 🏎️ When you are creating a website the first question you are asked is: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐰𝐞𝐛𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊 𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄? When in reality the better question is: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐰𝐞𝐛𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐃𝐎?

To figure you that DO make a list starting with the overall goal for your website: 

For example, #1 Increase Leads = Main Goal ✅

Then create the smaller goals that will make up that larger one. What steps will it take to reach that main goal? Write these in descending order, for example:

#2 Increase Free PDF Book Downloads ✅

#3 Increase Blog Commenting ✅

#4 Increase Social Media Engagement ✅

If you can define your goals you can then define what and where your website and online presence need to be improved in order to reach those goals.

Now that you know how to make your list, now it's time to test. But first, make the list! ✊
